#Alone,ButNotALoner

I never get bored.

This is not one of those sweeping statements that aren't actually true. I have seriously never known what boredom feels like. I often see a lot of Facebook status updates that invariably say "All Alone *insert sad face/ grimace*". If I'd be the one putting up that status, I'd probably do a virtual jig and ROFL, just in the joy of being ALL ALONE.

Mansi, you're such a loner! HELL, NO! You couldn't find a more people's person than me. I just also happen to like my own company A LOT.

And I think it's one of the things that people should try more. Common societal stereotypes tell us that staying by yourself is anti-social, an indicator of something "wrong" with said person's life, a sign of some inbuilt sadness.

It couldn't be further from the truth.

Don't get me wrong, I love being with people, picking new conversations and or just goofing around. But I won't trade my alone-time for the world. In today's busy world, where we don't even go take a dump without our phones, as if the scrolling down of the Facebook/Twitter feed is somehow going to inspire some very impressive bowel movement, what part of the day can you truly call your own? Where you did something that you liked doing, without the external pressure of how you appear to people around you? We're so connected, yet so disconnected from our own selves. If it's not face-to-face interaction, it's the constant pinging of cell phones, that clarion call that makes us look down at our varying devices even when we are sitting across from someone we want to spend time with. Ironical, isn't it?

Anyway, that's another discussion, for another time. Coming back to being alone. Take out that one hour during the day, where you do something that you like doing. Go have a coffee and cake by yourself and people-watch (best pastime ever), or just bury your nose in the latest thriller or even watch the leaked episodes of Game of Thrones or old re-runs of Friends.

The point being that you'll emerge rejuvenated and at one with yourself. Which brings the kind of glow and happiness to your face that no facial can ever achieve.

Take the time to think about random things, use up the time to stir the pot of random thoughts. Some of our best ideas and brainwaves usually occur when we're not concentrating on anything in particular. Newton and the Apple. I mean, the man was sitting under a tree and chilling for God's sake and he single-handedly changed the entire world of physics.

We shouldn't be afraid to spend time with ourselves, should we? I mean, if you really think about it, you'd see how bizarre is this obsession of always being with someone, as if only being around people can validate our existence.

Okay. So we all have that one thing we like doing that noone knows about. Like watching CID or B-grade movies or singing in the shower or even gardening or writing poetry or even Dubsmashing your way through Bollywood. Do that one thing. And you'll see that to be alone is not to be a loner.

It's oddly liberating, wonderfully addictive and amazingly relaxing. Why wouldn't you want to try it? *wink, wink*

I'd love to hear what you've got to say about this! Leave your comments below!
